As an international Myanmar student, Tun Lin Htet began his U.S. college education at John Jay College in January of 2000. He transferred to Baruch as a sophomore, graduating in the spring of 2004 with a B.B.A. in Economics. Htet is currently employed at the U.N. in the Department of Economics and Social Affairs. His work entails financing for development, especially in “third world” countries around the globe.
His intellectual and personal growth at Baruch was remarkable, and reached its peak with his contribution to Sigma Alpha Delta. His professors at Baruch served as a solid support and mentor for Htet throughout his tenure at the college.
An achiever by nature, he increasingly became involved in activities at Baruch. He ran for USG Senator as a part of a group called PROGRESS in the fall of 2002. He began working for The Ticker as a webmaster that same fall. Shortly thereafter, he met Tony Romani (formerly Tony Gruia) and Eric Green, who introduced him to Sigma Alpha Delta. He then left The Ticker and became webmaster of the Sigma Alpha Delta website. His involvement with the group increased until, he eventually became the Chairman of the Public Relations Committee in 2002. Htet and his peers decided on a process of interviewing new candidates to join Sigma Alpha Delta and put it into motion in 2003.
After graduating from Baruch, Htet worked for a gemstones company as a Sales Associate until 2005. In 2006, he got a contract with the United Nations, and has been working there ever since. As a realist, his motto in life is to live in the present and to do the best you can with what you have. He also believes that an affable personality, good people skills, and the ability to work with a team, are all essentials for working in today’s business world. He is thankful to Sigma Alpha Delta for allowing him to develop these skills while expanding his network. His experiences with Sigma Alpha Delta have helped him step into the professional world, and ease the transition from academic life to the workplace. On weekends, Htet likes to pursue his passion of fashion photography.
