Sigma Alpha Delta's
Members of the Month
October 2008

Sofiya Denisova
President’s Pick Member of the Month

Congratulations to Sofiya
on being the Member of the Month

How can one person rejuvenate a group of 20 members? It’s an unfeasible task. But a freshman has already accomplished what most college graduates fail to do—assume leadership and effectively lead. Sofiya was appointed the Vice President of Newsletters in the Alumni Relations Committee a week ago, and she inherited a newsletter in its formative stages, with no concrete product available. What did she do? She assumed ownership of the newsletter. She contacted every article writer and implored them to finish their assigned articles. In less than a week, the newsletter is completely polished and finalized. Even though there are others who have performed at an extraordinary level—Sofiya’s contribution cannot be overlooked nor ignored. She is the President’s Pick for Member of the Month.

Melissa Rusinek
Vice President's Pick Member of the Month

Congratulations to Melissa
on being the Member of the Month

Altruistic—that’s the one adjective which embodies Melissa Rusinek. She didn’t join Sigma for self-interested reasons or to embellish her resume with a one-liner. She said she joined to volunteer. Volunteering has been alluded to as the backbone of our Honor Society, and Melissa’s volunteerism is unmatched as she has completed a total of four volunteering events and project managed Sigma’s first volunteering event this semester. Her leadership and direction during the Nursing Home Visit was remarkable and praiseworthy. For this reason, I have selected her Vice-Presidential Member of the Month, for the month of October.

Jessica Demorest
Alumni Relations Committee Member of the Month

Congratulations to Jessica
on being the Member of the Month

Few people can lay claim to being the most pivotal member of a committee. Jessica Demorest is one of those rarities—she has assumed an unbridled leadership role. Whenever there is a problem within the Alumni Committee, the VP of Internal Affairs is ready to troubleshoot. She has been a consummate secretary—keeping not just committee members, but the entire Executive Board up to date with everything that transpires. She is the glue that holds the Alumni Relations Committee together. For this, she is the Alumni Relations Committee Member of the Month.

Melissa Lok
Business and Events Committee Member of the Month

Congratulations to Melissa
on being the Member of the Month

Melissa is the sole catering specialist for the Business and Events Committee. What's so remarkable about that? She is the main individual who negotiates with restaurants. She has accumulated favorable bids on behalf of Sigma throughout the semester. As a freshman, she has illuminated and worked tremendously for the betterment of our Honor Society. While others were busy enjoying "Brand Yourself", it was Melissa who was working in the faculty lounge, aiding in the set up of the food. For this, she is the Business and Events Committee Member of the Month.

Julian Sarita
Marketing Committee Member of the Month

Congratulations to Julian
on being the Member of the Month

When you are the chief marketing strategist for an event, you are impelled to perform. It is a role that isn't designated for the bashful or the easily intimidated—it's a challenge for those that are bold, initiated and persistent. Julian Sarita marketing strategy behind the Oxford Debate was ingenuous. The Marketing Committee went from classroom to classroom, spoke to random students on campus and advertised the Oxford Debate during the Presidential Debates in the Sabotnik Center. The Oxford Debate had an astounding 130 attendants. Without a dedicated and effective stratagem, the Oxford Debate would have been a monumental failure. For his leadership, he is the Marketing Committee Member of the Month.

Grace Zheng
Volunteering Events Committee Member of the Month

 Congratulations to Grace
on being the Member of the Month

Grace has been a model of diligence and consistency. Her participation in volunteerism hasn't been confined to just her requisite two events—she has gone above and beyond to establish her worth to Sigma Alpha Delta. She has Project Managed both the NYC Marathon and Light the Night—events of immense magnitude. She fundraised over $400 for Light the Night with her Co-Project Manager, Yaling Zheng. For this, she is the Volunteering Committee Member of the Month.
