Elizabeth Diorio, former Treasurer of Sigma Alpha Delta and current Operations Analyst at Goldman Sachs, was a natural go-getter long before she stepped foot into Baruch College. Hailing from Marine Park, Brooklyn, Liz grew up in a single-parent household with three siblings. As if living in a household with three brothers was not energizing enough, Liz’s mother, a Physical Education teacher, yoga instructor, driving instructor, and employee at the New York Sports Club, also instilled her with vibrant energy and ambition from an early age. A woman of many talents just like her mom, Liz pursued ballet and performed in “The Nutcracker” as a youngster.

In 2001, Liz faced a big transition in her life as she graduated from high school and was admitted into Baruch College. She did not have the traditional college experience as she took some time off prior to obtaining her Bachelor’s degree in order to work a full-time job. In 2005, Liz, still uncertain as to what career she would like to pursue in the future, decided to resume her education at Baruch. It was at that time that a friend advised Liz to join Sigma Alpha Delta as a way to enhance her college experience and at the same time help build her résumé. Who would have ever thought that it would be this recommendation that would bring an extremely bright and influential leader like Liz into the arms of Sigma?

Before long, Liz gained new brothers and sisters as she became actively involved in Sigma Alpha Delta. Surprisingly enough, approximately three years later, it was a fellow Sigma member, Paul Sinclair (who worked at Goldman Sachs at the time), who influenced Liz’s decision to accept an offer from Goldman Sachs Operations upon graduation in 2008. Learning from mistakes during past interviews and taking the time to do her research about the company helped Liz secure her current position. Though Liz admits that her work often requires extremely long hours, she nonetheless finds her work to be extremely rewarding. She also stresses the employee-oriented environment at Goldman. In terms of personal/career advice, Liz offers these words of wisdom: “Don’t doubt yourself. Everyone brings something to the table; everyone has strengths and weaknesses.”

Now, at age twenty-seven, more than just a successful professional, Liz also spends her time taking care of her two children and going to the gym. In addition to this, Liz participates in “Big Brothers Big Sisters of America”, a non-profit, national organization whose mission is to help children reach their full potential through service and individual mentorship from professional adults. But she’s not stopping there. “I’m planning to go back to school to learn how to teach. I’ve always wanted to teach high-school math or become a manager of some sort. Maybe take positions at different departments at Goldman Sachs before managing. If I set my mind on something, I do it.” In terms of her personal life, in the near future, Liz plans to move out of her apartment and buy a house most preferably in the same neighborhood as she is currently living in. “I would definitely like to go backpacking in Europe, especially Italy, to visit my parents’ birthplaces. I’d like to go anywhere the sun shines.”
